[VIC] Wanting to do first oil change 2019 Golf R, where to buy all the parts?

Hey all. Where do y'all buy all the things needed for an oil change? I'm wanting to do my own interim changes, so I need the filter + o-ring, new drain plug, and 6L of oil (I can research which oil I need and find it somewhere locally I expect). Is it best to go to a genuine VW dealer for these things or is there somewhere local/online I can order from? I'm on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.

    Thanks in advance!

Bah! *edit* Title *to, not top

    Discussed many, many times before.
Genuine VW Oil Filter (or a Mann OEM Filter), plus the plastic drain plug (VW Parts will sell you these genuine items).

As for oil, as long as it is an approved oil VW 504 00 / VW 507 00 5W-30 (my personal choice is Castrol Edge LL 5W-30), you will be good to go!

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve seen lots of discussions about oil here but not so many on where to get the parts. I’ve read VW sells these but was interested to see if there was an Aussie equivalent of shopdap.com or ecstuning enthusiasts recommend.

Will swing by my closest VW dealer to get the stuff I need. Thanks.

Run Auto Parts and Sparesbox are usually very good for sourcing filters etc for European cars, but they dont seem to have much on offer for the Mk7 R for some reason. Both are Australian websites.

I knew i had seen Mk7 R service parts somewhere previously........i just stumbled across this while looking for something else. Im assuming the link below works, otherwise you will need to select your make and model from the filter on the left of the Auto Instruct webpage.

They have oil filters, sump plugs, cabin (pollen) filters, DSG oil filters and DSG oil, air filters etc etc as well as aftermarket performance products.

Just go into a dealer and buy the oil filter and a sump plug ($6.50) and get the oil at Suprcrap or Autobarn. MAkes sure you have the correct filter and is as cheap as the indies

Waht do you mean "interim" changes Yearly or 15,000 km is the recommended earlier is just a waste of money IMHO

I ended up at the dealer for my filter and plug, but it didn’t cost $6.50 (maybe the plug by itself did). Somewhere around $20 for the filter. Got the Castrol at Supercheap. Did the oil change. Deposited the oil at the local recycling facility. Happy camper.

Interim oil changes was something I read about, particularly if it’s the first X000kms (6500kms) of the engine. I suppose to do or not to do depends on what you read and where.

You either do it in the first 1000km or not at all. /Waits for "my engine is using oil" thread
